of FAO, the mission aimed at verifying the possibilities
of export, within the fair trade, the products of the
communities of small family farmers of the north-east
of Brazil; (the products especially were: cajù
chestnut, honey, food coming from cassava for animals,

to the Promata head office on the occasion of the National
Fair of the Family Agriculture and of the Land Reform),
November of 2004.
Object of the mission: to deepen the knowledge of the
region of the government programme PROMATA and its level
of progress in wiev of an agreement of technical and financial
cooperation between the planning Secretary of the Government
of the Pernambuco State and the Conges.
Achievement of the aims fixed: the visit has permitted
severals meetings with institucionals authorities and
has offered the opportunity to deepen the Pernambuco reality.
We laid the basis for a collaboration between PROMATA
and CONGES for activities of consultancy about rural responsible
tourism and small enterprise, assistance for the exports
and for the articulation and working out of international
cooperation agreements.
Study of the cajù pulp: partnership Acs (association
for the cooperation and the development), Conges, Deafab,
Universitt of Padova (State of Cearà, in Jjioca
de Jericoacoara). The aim of the study was to understand
how to exploit a resource always unused to give un incentive
and new ways for the local agriculture. It’s about
cajù, wild plant that produces a real fruit (chestnut
of cajù better known as cashew, whose trade is
already very developed) that grows at the estremity of
a false pulpy fruit, object of the study above-mentioned.
The Region of Cearà is an area that produces big
quantities of cajù where there is a serious problem
of waste, because the 96% of the cajù peduncle
is wasted, the farmers pick the chestnut throwing on the
ground the false fruit. The final project plans the installation
of a mini enterprise (it’s about a pilot project
that could be repeated in other areas of the country)
for the cultivation of this fruit with the involvement
of the local population to improve the existing life conditions
and to solution, even if partially, some socioeconomic
problems which exist in this specific area of Brazil.
